In our second decade of supporting Stonington Students NEWS The SEF would like to thank all those that attended our "Chill Out for the Love of Learning" evening at the Mystic Aquarium on February 11, 2012. The SEF would also like to thank our sponsors, as well as the local businesses that contributed to the event, including the Mystic Aquarium, Ocean Catering and 28 Strings. Over $12,200 was raised during this event, all of which will benefit the children in Stonington Public Schools. SEF has provided $13,200 in Fall 2011 to support continuing educational and musical initiatives with the school system. Many of the grants being funded will bring technology into the classroom, such as iPods, Kindles and laptop computers, with specialized educational software to benefit students at all learning levels. The musical departments are benefiting from proceeds collected during this past summer's Blue Monday jazz musical events held in Mystic. All schools within the system are benefiting. We thank the teachers and administrators for the innovative ideas that will benefit many students within the Stonington Public School System. |

The SEF has awarded approximately $20,000 in grant money over the past two years alone. Recent grant projects that have benefited from the generosity of SEF include: the Community/Sensory Learning Garden at West Vine School, Vocabulary Videos in the district's 2 middle schools, the Book Buddies program between PMS and WVS, and our middle and high school music programs. Money granted to purchase items on the secondary schools wish lists was raised through the Blue Mondays Concert series which is held in the Mystic River Park each summer.
